2013 New IWC Ingenieur Watches Collection - Pre-SIHH
This year, the collection is an engineer and the best news is the introduction (re-) of the new Ingenieur Automatic. Automatic winding, 40 mm stainless steel tribute to the original engineer designed by Gerald Genta in 1977. Not only killer looks, also announced a return to the true functional integrity of an engineer to withstand magnetic fields up to 40,000 A / m
For now introduces three new IWC Ingenieur Automatic 40mm model, eventually reducing the size! What is also striking is the height of these models, as it is only 10 mm! This means that the new Ingenieur Automatic is more comfortable than previous models Engineer.
Inside, well protected by a soft iron case inside, press caliber 30110, which is in fact an ETA 2892. This is exactly the same movement that can be found in the new IWC Mark XVII, which was presented at the SIHH 2012. This self-winding movement beats at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) and has 42 hours of power reserve.
Back in time - the first Ingenieur watches
IWC Ingenieur when first launched in 1954, was regarded as a monitoring tool, because it had a soft iron case around the movement to protect negative influence of magnetism. Although it does not appear that we now call dress look-a-days, measuring approximately 36 mm in diameter, it was not until 1976 that the engineer has received a major update.
Famous designer Gerald Genta, also responsible for the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak and Patek Philippe Nautilus, was the same time that these two replica watches, he designed a sports watch with stainless steel bracelet integrated. It can be a typical Genta brand. When IWC Ingenieur SL ref introduced. 1832 to 1976 was not an instant success to say the least. It was produced from 1976 to 1984 and a total of 543 pieces of steel were produced (ref. 1832) and only 55 copies in gold (Ref. 9232). It is safe to say that these watches are very collectible these days and prices are eg about € 10,000!
Perhaps the reason for this success is disappointing was the fact that it is not comfortable to wear. The Ingenieur SL ref. 1832, nicknamed Jumbo has a thickness case, measuring 14 mm in height, and a little stiff wrist. The close ties of the case were quite thick and not sagging, "wrap" around the wrist. One reason for the referee. 1832, the thickness is probably the movement, the size is 8541. Ingenieur SL later models have a thin movement, based on the ETA 2892/A2 and is thinner in total.
The new Ingenieur Automatic also has a rather thin, and although the case magnetically shielded with a soft iron is important, it does not affect the thickness of the casing. Of course, the design has been updated and is modern, but most of the key design features are still intact.
The most obvious, of course, the ring with the bores 5, which was originally used for the ring position. The bezel is slightly tapered and has a step built into the watch look even thinner. All surfaces of the housing are provided with a matte finish, except that different edges are polished, allowing the engineer that the engineer has been designed with great attention to detail. Compared to the engineer, the upper crown and is now a crown SL. Also new are the shoulders generous protection around the crown.
Although I prefer black dials, I am totally overwhelmed by the silver dial / white the new Ingenieur Automatic. Diameter down to size, height of only 10 mm, the return to full "Engineer" feature withstand up to 40,000 A / m and even design-wise to Getnta root. I'm in love and if the price is right, I want a fast, new Ingenieur Automatic is super sexy!
Further details are clearly visible on the pictures (or rendered graphics) and I'm very curious about this new collection in January at SIHH. A final mood pictures and specifications of three new models.
